Being a Missionary
|
- Build relationships with people of a
different ethnic or cultural background
- Volunteer at a bilingual church
- Seek out missionary kids, third-culture kids,
and international students and ask them about their
culture
- Consider one of the many study-abroad options
through Asbury
|
- Become actively involved in outreach within
my local community
- Volunteer at your local church (teach Sunday
school, help with the youth group, help on church
work days).
- Get involved in the student-led ministries of
CSA
- Join other Asbury students to make a difference
in the community during Reach Out events
|
- Serve on a short-term mission trip
- Research summer, spring break, and Christmas
break mission trips that go out from Asbury
- Many organizations offer longer-term trips,
measured in months and not weeks, to get a better
feel for a culture and a ministry (with WGM, this
would be our VIA program)
|
- Serve as a full-time missionary sometime in
the future
- Begin to contact
mission agencies now!
- Take opportunities to speak with current
missionaries
- Don't wait!
Learn,
Pray, and
mobilize now!
- Take classes that would be helpful to your
ministry (find out about courses
recommended by missionaries and sending agencies)
- Don't be derailed by the common obstacles of
going -
Debt,
Dating,
Family, and
Support Raising
|
- Be open , available, and prepared to advance
the Great Commission anywhere, at any time, and in any
way that God calls me
- Look for opportunities for serving now
(see local outreach section above)
- Make financially responsible decisions - Don't
let
debt keep you from being available
