Bolivia 2000
Dear friends and family,
"It must be the altitude!" -- This quote was heard many times today to explain everything from singing out of tune to our sore muscles. The fact
is that we are 3000 ft. above Denver's altitude, so the thinner air and scorching sun require getting used to.
Today we saw our work project. We are literally moving a mountain! The
church was built on the side of a mountain, and we are digging/picking/clawing out a basement for their Sunday School rooms. We
have already moved many wheel barrows and shovel fulls of dirt further down the mountain. The students are appreciating their college education more
than ever after feeling beginning blisters and muscles sore enough to make pouring water for supper a challenge.
It was a blessing to meet many of the church members as they worked
along side of us all day. Our Bolivian lunch was excellent and it took all of our will power to climb back up the steep hillside to dislodge a few more
boulders. Our day ended with passing heavy granite tiles up the hill in a assembly line that Ford would have been proud of (as you will see in the
attached photo). These tiles were purchased with some of the money we raised for the trip, and will form the finished floor for the sanctuary.
We rewarded ourselves this evening with a trip to the ice cream shop in
town. We will be sleeping well tonight! The team is in great spirits and all is well. Thanks for your prayers.
