Bolivia 2000
Dear
family and friends,
"I never thought shopping could be so fun!" -- this came from the mouth of
Derek Robinette. This afternoon we took a break from the manual labor and headed into Cochabamba's central shopping district.
This morning we headed for the fourth time to Bethel Church on the outskirts
of Cochabamba. Another truck of sand (for the concrete mix) and a truck of granite floor tiles arrived which we promptly unloaded with our human chain
of arms. We passed sack after sack of sand up the hillside where it was mixed by hand making cement to secure the granite tiles. During one of our
water breaks we split into three groups including some of the church youth in each group to canvass the community immediately surrounding the church.
We invited them to our Despidita (our farewell service) on Friday evening as well as handed them Spanish and Quechua Bible tracts. Originally we
intended to invite them to this evening's service, but it had to be cancelled as the tiles needed 48 hours to set. The rest of the morning went
by quickly in the pleasant temperatures, enjoying the incredible view of the city from our hilltop perch as we continued our work.
After lunch, with backpacks tightly clutched in front to avoid the notorious
Cancha pickpockets, the team threaded itself through narrow aisles of handmade Bolivian goods. Our attached photo shows us with some of the many
special things we found to take home as remembrances of our time here in Bolivia. Amid the occasional wheelbarrow of toilet paper and toothpaste, we
found treasures that will always remind us of the remarkable time we have experienced here.
This will probably be our last update from Bolivia. Tomorrow we have a full
day at the worksite followed by a full evening with our Bolivian brothers and sisters. Please pray for the opportunity we will have to present one
more time the saving Gospel through our use of music and drama. Also pray that many of the individuals we met this morning in our neighborhood walk
will be able to attend Friday's service and find a place of worship in Bethel Church.

P.S. Rev. and Mrs. King: Diane is not in this picture which was taken rather spontaneously after supper as she slipped off to get a shower before
the hot water was gone! Don't be worried, we think she got you something too! :-)
