Ministry Opportunities
Before
leaving for Paraguay on the 17th of March, we met twice a week as a team to
prepare both practically and spiritually to make the most out of the relatively
few days we would be able to spend in Asuncion. We learned Spanish songs
and several pantomime skits. We polished our testimonies and learned how
to make balloon animals as well as took along some puppets. God gave us an
opportunity to put our preparation to work within hours of landing in
Paraguay. The first service we were blessed to be a part of was on the
Sunday evening we arrived. Although exhausted from travel, God gave us
strength and each team member took part in the service. The second service
was the highlight of our trip for much of the team. The Wednesday night
service held at the new church site was the first service ever held on those
grounds! We were given the opportunity to present the Gospel there for the
very first time! We canvassed the neighborhood earlier that afternoon to
invite the community to church, but we were not sure what type of response we
would receive. To our amazement, when the diesel engine of the truck we
rode to church on stopped we heard lots of voices and most of them kids.
We estimate that there were over 80 kids and about 40 adults. It was a
good thing that we didn't have the back wall of the church up yet because the
building filled up and overflowed well into the yard. Although there were
many distractions (lights going out, dogs running in and out, and 80+ squirming
kids), we believe that God was able to plant seeds that night in the hearts the
of community and we believe the "El Renuvo" Church will be a light in
the village for years to come!
